The current Covid-19 alert levels and the resulting travel restrictions and restricted numbers for outdoor gatherings is causing some speculation among our Baypark competitors and stakeholders. Currently Baypark is being used by the DHB as a vaccination centre and they are occupying the Functions Lounge and part of the pit area which is also contributing to these concerns. Baypark Speedway intends to open for our 20th Anniversary on Saturday 23 October as planned and arrangements are being put in place to minimise any disruptions to our speedway operation.
Under the current Covid levels, holding a race meeting with unrestricted numbers of spectators in attendance is only permitted at Level 1. In the meantime we are considering all options that would allow us to hold our practice day and hopefully the situation will return to normal in time to proceed with our full calendar as normal. We will have a clearer understanding at the next Government review of the alert levels and the impact that any changes may have on our draft calendar.
At present preparations for our 20th anniversary season are continuing. Please be aware that in accordance with the rule change at the Speedway New Zealand AGM in July, Baypark Speedway is installing the MyLaps lap scoring system as soon as the components are delivered and we expect this to be installed and operational for the start of the season. This will mean that a MyLaps transponder is required to compete at Baypark and comply with Speedway New Zealand Rules. Information on purchasing transponders is available on the Speedway New Zealand Website.
We will keep you up to date as best we can and as often as we can with progress and any further developments.
