Newly crowned Australian Supercar champion Shane van Gisbergen has entered the North Island Sprintcar title next weekend running the United Truck Parts 97A.
Speedway Racing Limited are excited about the opportunity and believe that this is great for both the sport and Baypark Speedway.
Raised in Auckland, SVG spent his early years racing ATVs on natural terrain motocross tracks and a Quarter Midget on speedway ovals. Then followed a brief but successful dalliance with karts and then a year in the Formula First class courtesy of New Zealand’s SpeedSport magazine scholarship programme saw his focus turn to tarmac.
SVG won the NZ Formula Ford title in 2005-06 and has since gone on to become one of the most successful V8 Supercar drivers with three championship wins.
He has since gone on to become one of the most successful V8 Supercar drivers to date.
He is also no stranger to Speedway, starting with Quarter midgets at an early age, he raced at Baypark Speedway for the United Truck Parts team in the 97 Midget car a few season’s back.
Travis Buckley was on a plane Friday night and landed in time to make the PTS International Sprintcar Series at Lucas Oil Western Springs Speedway on Saturday night.
Travis has been racing the last 3 years representing New Zealand in America consistently in the Western States program and it proved well for him on Saturday with a strong performance coming home 9th in the feature.
We are excited to see both kiwi superstars hit the track and join the record breaking field for what promises to be a huge night of speedway racing on the 10th of December.
