How did you get into speedway?
Working for Regent Towing driving a hook truck at Western Springs in the 80’s Worked at other tracks Western Springs/Bay Park
What does your position mean?
Take orders from track referee. I.e. when to start race (green flag) caution (yellow flag) stop race (red flag) and for the drivers the final flag (black and white flag)- the one they all hope to get at the end of the race.
If someone was interested in your role in the future what should they do?
Get involved with speedway. Join the Club – become a crew member for a driver – learn the race rules and learn to love speedway – everything. Speed / noise / dust in your hot dog!
What do you think of the changes since new promotion?
Happy with the track preparation and the decisions around that.

Have you won any awards?
Yes, the most recent was the volunteer of the year award last year for Baypark Speedway.
Do you have a favourite class /driver?
All time greats Barry Butterworth, Sleepy Tripp, Mel Kenyon. Currently Scott Hayward. He’s an exciting driver and when he’s on he’s on!
Do you look up to anyone at Speedway?
Willie Kay the most knowledgeable speedway person I have met. He has contributed a lot to speedway in New Zealand.
