When did you start racing and how did you get into it?

I started when I was 13 in a mini stock and how I got into it well I guess you could say its in the blood, with dad racing my whole life it was bound to happen.

What classes have you run over the years?

Started in mini stocks did that for 4

years, then six shooters for 7 years and now just done my first season of sprintcars.

What are you most proud of in your racing career?

I should say I’m proud of all the feature wins I have won from reverse grids but what I want to say is that I’m proud of my 3 year old boy who knows so much about speedway, way more than the average adult!

What titles have you received while racing?

Multiple six shooter track championships mainly, Bay Champs, Auckland Champs.

What is your all-time favourite track to race at and why?

Rotorua, the racing is always tight and you really have to chuck it in, but also really enjoyed Palmy last

season, flat, fast and smooth!

What are you currently doing in the off-season and how do you prepare

mentally and physically for this sport?

Drinking beer and watching Outlaws! Naaa

I try and get to BayKarts and do their social night which is normally every 2nd Friday

night and keep that race fitness in tip top shape!

What do you hope to achieve next season?

Top 5s and podiums would be cool but finishing every race is a big goal as we had a lot of teething issues last season which led to DNFs

Also a wicked slide job on the ol man for the win would be the ultimate goal!

What characteristics do you think are important to becoming successful in

racing?

Having respect on and off the track, being a good sport and a positive

attitude can go along way.

What is happening with your car in the off-season any major changes we

should look out for once the season starts?

We have stripped the car right down and giving her some love. The car will look much the same just probably a slightly different design.

Speedway racing can be fast and dangerous, looking out toward the fans, what

do you think is one thing the fans will never understand until they are behind

the wheel of a race car?

It all happens so fast and a split decision can make you

look awesome or a total idiot, its so easy to be critical of someones driving, I know

Ive done it with dad a few times maybe not too his face but now being in a similar

position you understand how quick things can change.

What is your favourite race on the NZ race calendar?

Palmy Teams Champs! You simply can’t beat that atmosphere.

Who do you admire most in motorsport and why?

The one who I’ve learnt from the most, Rodney Wood! He’s the reason Im racing, and more importantly how I race today. Im so thankful to have him as my dad and mentor. He’s my hero

Let’s talk about Baypark Speedway

–    What made you decide to run the Mighty M?

Its my local and its been a big part of my life

What do you think of the changes and the way direction the speedway is

moving?

Its Great to see some love and hard work being put in, its been hard

to race here the last few years and its really good to see it back on the rise

What would you like to see improve for both the speedway and your

class?

Fan interactions are always cool, especially when they spend their

hard earn cash to come watch us race always cool to thank them for that.

Tell us about your sponsors, what kind of business they run and the support

you get from them?

Man our sponsors are the best,  Colin and Carol at Maketu Poultry farms do it for the love of the sport! They have supported dad for over 20 years and the fact that they want to help me out too and I

will always be thankful for them!

Bay Karts at the end of Owens place is such a neat place to go race go karts for a

great price and I think the best track in NZ, we love going there and is definitely

wicked fun!

And our small sponsors help us out aswell

Sentinel Homes for your new home

Pollock Cranes for a lift,

Repco and Penrite for your auto needs

And Cole Wood Builders because the team there are the best Builders around town

We are also on the hunt for additional sponsors, so if your interested in helping out

our team, get in touch.

We know sponsors play a big part but so do crews and families, tell us about

your support team?

My wife Rachel is my biggest cheerleader and the best mum to our boys Ranger and

Kinser, My crew chief Dylon who’s been crewing for over 7 years and his wife Kelly, always

super committed! Kim and Rodney (mum and dad) are massive to my racing, such cool parents.

And all that have helped in a big or small way are legends

.Final words …… What would you like to say to your fans and the wider speedway community?
