Kaidon: The Aussie Champion Ready to Shake Up the Midget World Series
We caught up recently with Kaidon Brown, Former Australian Midget Car Champion and one of the latest Sprintcar sensations, ahead of his much-anticipated return to New Zealand for the Midget World Series.
No stranger to Kiwi soil, this marks Kaidon’s fourth trip across the ditch to represent Australia. With his skill, speed, and fierce competitive spirit, he’s set to be a major contender—not just for the Kiwis but also for the visiting American drivers in the series.
Baypark Speedway is buzzing with anticipation as fans eagerly await his return to the track.

Let’s chat with Kaidon brown
For those new to the sport, can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to start racing?
I grew up watching my dad race midgets for as long as I can remember. I am a fourth-generation driver, so I feel it was only natural for me to race them! My dad took me out to the local dirt kart track when I was 7 for a test run, and have been hooked ever since. My family then purchased a midget to race when I was 16, and have now run a family operation for the last 8 years.
What are your impressions of New Zealand, and are there any specific sights or experiences you’re excited to explore while you’re here?
I love New Zealand. I have been fortunate enough to make three trips over prior to Covid, so have done plenty of sightseeing. Now that I’m old enough, the casino is the number 1 bucket list experience!
This will be your fourth visit to New Zealand, As you prepare for the Midget World Series, what excites you the most about the competition?
Traveling over the Midget World Series, I know I am coming to race the best drivers the world has to offer. If a tiny bit off, on any given night it is hard to be competitive. The atmosphere at every round is electric, and I Iove how midgets in New Zealand attract the hype and attention they deserve!
With three unique tracks and some long races ahead, do you have a specific strategy or mindset going into the series?
Being able to race in the series, three times in the past is helpful in knowing what has worked, and what hasn’t. I have found it particularly important to be aggressive in the heats and ensure you have two great finishes. Starting up the front of the features is crucial, as you can’t give world-class drivers a headset, as you’ll never be able to make up the ground.
What memories do you have of your past visits in particular racing at Baypark Speedway?
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the best experiences at Baypark! My last trip there found me upside down with a destroyed race car. Hopefully this coming year I can stay on all four tires and challenge for the win!
