⭐ Season Rewind 11 laps till the Season Finale!

Baypark Speedway opened in perfect weather on Labour weekend 2022 for the start of lap 2 for the new promotions team.
The crowd, a very decent size walked into a list of changes that had been built up in the off-season. The wall in turn 3 and 4 had been raised 300ml and extra banking added, in fact, new track prep manager Rodney Wood had completely replaced the entire surface around the entire 451m and it looked perfect.

The fan zone was the new entrance for race fans, and a first for Baypark leading the crowd into the pits to mix and mingle up close with their dirt track heroes and see a completely new side to the venue.

Out with the old and in with the new was the sign of printed programs as we went 100% digital and online and with a very interactive and impressive program we must say.

Five classes lined up on the dummy grid that night, something we have since learned is almost an impossible task thanks to time restraints set with the Speedway since opening.
However, 4 classes got to the big dance and (Horse) Ross Ashby was the only M car to finish on top that night in the Superstocks.

Bryan Fraser won both his races in the youth Ministocks putting him on top of the podium that evening as well for the mighty M.
Aucklanders would take out two features with Craig Cardwell running away to an impressive finish and claiming the goods for opening night, however, Brad Mosen had to fight a little harder but this set up what look to be Brad’s year as he just got faster and more unbeatable every meeting, he would win Round 1 and also round 5, 5 months later at Baypark in the Midas Midget Allstar series.

The last race to mention was one not to forget as 24 Sprintcars tested every part of the new track giving the crowd the show they came to see, it would be the first of two wins for Kihikihi’s Daniel Thomas, and we all know how the nationals worked out for him as the new Sprintcar Champion of New Zealand.
Overall it was a great start to the 2022/23 season.

We would also like to mention how amazing our photographers have been this season, providing us with world-class photos of all the action at every meeting. Our team led by Stu from The Write Angle and Jess from Blissful Photography motorsport and events in her debut season has already cracked the code and of course, James from JamesSelwynphotos comes in and out during open wheel meetings.
