For the second time, the F2 Midgets are ready to step firmly into the spotlight as their unofficial title takes centre stage tonight. If the opening weeks are anything to go by, this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive F2 seasons in recent memory, with no shortage of genuine contenders putting their hand up for top honours.

The fastest start to the season belonged to the eye-catching 94A of Troy Jeffries, who wasted absolutely no time announcing his arrival. On his very first night out, Jeffries turned heads with blistering pace, delivering a dominant feature race victory that left the rest of the field chasing shadows. Even reigning A1F2 Champion Jimmy Earl was left trailing, nearly four seconds in arrears by the chequered flag — a statement performance that immediately stamped Jeffries as a serious title threat.

Earl, however, was quick to respond. At Lucas Oil Auckland, the experienced campaigner showed exactly why he wears the champion’s crown. The three-heat format placed Earl on the front row for the feature, and from there, he was back to his clinical best, controlling the race and securing a confidence-boosting victory to level the early-season scoreboard.

While the established names have delivered, one of the standout stories so far has been the rise of the newcomers — the rookies who have injected fresh energy and depth into the field. Roydon White, Regan Le Cheminant, and Campbell Hayes have all impressed in their first full seasons, proving they are more than capable of mixing it with the front-runners.

Hayes has been particularly consistent, recording a third and a fifth-place finish across two outings, showing maturity well beyond his experience. Le Cheminant has also delivered strong performances, highlighted by a solid fourth place in a feature race, while White has demonstrated outright speed with heat race victories, just missing out on converting that pace into a feature result so far.

This will be a showdown like no other. All the drivers have been waiting and expecting this to be the race of the season.
